This Blenny has a transparent body with a visible orange-and-white banded spinal column. It lacks cirri above its eyes. During breeding, males are almost entirely black with a white edge on the foredorsal fin. Females have a slightly elongated first spine on the foredorsal fin. Juveniles have an elongated and pointed first spine on the foredorsal fin.
