The Cryptic Clingfish has a long, narrow body with dark vertical bars or blotches. It sometimes has white spots low on the sides. Thin lines run from the eye toward the mouth and gill area. On the underside, it has a sucker disc with small bumps at the front and back, but the middle part is smooth.
This Clingfish can be found hiding among rocks or on piers and prefers shallow waters with strong currents. It uses its modified pelvic fins as a powerful suction disc to cling to rocks and other surfaces, which allows it to withstand the strong currents. It is rarely seen because it is so difficult to spot.
