This Dartfish has an elongated body. Its overall color is pale gray, with hints of yellow and blue stripes behind the eyes. Juveniles have a bluish body and yellow tails.
The Hovering Dartfish lives near sandy bottoms, hovering just above its burrow. It retreats quickly when approached too closely. Juveniles are found in shallower water.
