This Coral has a single fleshy polyp with raised lines spreading outward from the center, which is flat to slightly curved. Colors range from gray, green, and brown to blue-green with lighter streaks.

Artichoke Coral hides in deeper, shaded areas under ledges or inside caves. During the day, its tentacles are usually retracted.
