The Knobby Brain Coral forms rounded domes or flat, spreading shapes that attach to hard surfaces. The surface is covered with uneven knobs and raised ridges. These ridges may show a thin line along the top when the polyps are partly open. Colors range from green to brown, yellow-brown, or bluish gray, with the grooves often appearing lighter than the raised areas.
This Brain Coral is most often seen in shallow water but can also live much deeper.
