This Coral grows in vertical columns with rounded tops. The living tops are smooth and show evenly spaced small coral openings. Its color ranges from light brown to green, yellow-brown or gray.
The Lobed Star Coral forms thick clusters up to 10 ft (3 m) tall. The tops of the columns are alive, while the lower parts are often covered by Algae or Sponges and appear eroded.
