The Shorttail Snake Eel has a sharp snout that extends past its mouth. It has many brown spots over its pale body and head. The eyes are small and the dorsal fin begins close to the head.
This Snake Eel lives buried in sandy areas, often mixed with algae or seagrass. It usually hides with only its head and part of the body exposed.
