Taxonomic: Muraenidae
ID Group: Eels
Size: 1.5 - 3 ft.

This Moray has a body covered in dark brown to black spots and blotches on pale white or yellowish skin. In some cases, the colors reverse, with dark skin and pale spots. The dorsal fin running along its back often has a dark edge.

The Spotted Moray lives in shallow waters and rocky areas. It stays hidden in cracks or holes during the day, often showing just its head. It mostly comes out at night to hunt but can sometimes be seen swimming during the day. Its open mouth helps it breathe and is not a sign of aggression. It generally ignores divers but will retreat if approached too closely.
