Size: 4 - 8 in.
Depth Range: On the reef (10 – 60 ft.)

The Atlantic Creolefish has a purple-gray body with a pale belly, but it sometimes has a reddish-brown body color. There's a bright red spot at the base of its pectoral fins, and it has either dark or light spots near its dorsal fin. Its tail has a distinct fork.

The Atlantic Creolefish is mostly seen in groups on the reef and is somewhat cautious. It feeds during the day, picking zooplankton from the water column with its specialized small mouth. Unlike many of its relatives, it is a plankton-eater rather than a predator. The Atlantic Creolefish is also sometimes seen with symothoid isopods attached beneath one or both eyes.
