The Bantam Bass has a small, elongated orange-brown body with two dark stripes running lengthwise. The upper front part of its dorsal fin has a distinct dark spot.

The Bantam Bass is active and cautious, and can be found in small groups mixed with other small fish, such as juvenile Creole Wrasse. It feeds on zooplankton, catching tiny drifting prey throughout the day.
