The Orangeback Bass has a dark orange-brown pattern over its upper head and back. Two orange to yellow square marks outlined in black sit behind its eye, with an orange bar across its snout. Orange to yellow rectangular marks cover its pale middle and lower body.
The Orangeback Bass can be found in deeper coral and rocky areas. It often rests on the bottom near openings where it can hide.
