The Boga has a silvery-blue body marked with thin horizontal stripes in shades of yellow, gold, and green. A prominent stripe, often gold, runs from behind the eye to the tail, with finer lines visible above and below it. The snout has a distinct yellowish hue, and the fins are mostly translucent with a faint yellowish tint.
The Boga lives in open water near the coast, where it often swims in large schools. It is occasionally seen over the reef. Unlike many of its close relatives, it feeds during the day. Its highly extendable mouth allows it to feed on zooplankton and other small organisms in the water.
