This Triggerfish has a dark body with pale blue lines running along the base of its dorsal and anal fins. The head may have a bluish tint above the eyes and an orange or yellow hue below. Its diamond-shaped scales have pale blue edges.
The Black Durgon is often seen in small groups above the reef, swimming in open water. It is cautious and tends to keep its distance from divers.
