This Trunkfish has a triangular body with a distinct hump on its back and a long tail. It has two spines near the back but none above the eyes. Its color varies from brown to green, blue, or gray, with white spots on the back and tail.
The Buffalo Trunkfish is primarily found over seagrass beds but occasionally ventures onto the reef. It is wary of divers and tends to move away when approached.
