This Sweeper has a silver, gray, or dark green body shaped like a narrow teardrop. The body is deep and flat, with very large eyes and a sharply sloped belly. It can have a faint stripe at the base of its anal fin.
The Shortfin Sweeper is usually seen in groups inside caves or under ledges near the shore. At night, it leaves its shelter in schools to feed on zooplankton drifting in the water.
