The Spotfin Burrfish has black spots across its body and fins. Its upper body is uneven brown or gray, sometimes with large dark patches and broad dark bars on the head and body. Its underside is white. Its triangular spines remain raised at all times.

The Spotfin Burrfish hides in shaded areas and crevices and is somewhat cautious.
