This Goatfish has three dark rectangular blotches along its body that are visible when it is active. Two barbels extend from beneath its chin. When resting, it can quickly change color from white to a reddish-blotched pattern.
The Spotted Goatfish uses its barbels to search for food in sandy areas. It is usually seen in pairs or small groups and moves away when approached closely.
