The males have a bluish-green to green body with a dark spot in the middle and bars on the lower head. The females range from green to reddish-brown. Juveniles vary greatly in color and markings, from solid colors to totally transparent, with dark bars that extend onto their fins.
The Green Razorfish is often seen hovering over sandy areas near rocks and rubble. When disturbed, it quickly dives into the sand but may reemerge after a short time.
