The Great Barracuda has a long, silver body with a large, pointed head and a jaw that reveals sharp, conical teeth. It has two widely spaced dorsal fins. Its sides may have a row of scattered dark blotches, which can sometimes appear as faint, dark bands. The tail fin is forked and dark, and the pectoral fins are small.
The Great Barracuda is a top predator that can reach very high speeds to ambush its prey. It often hunts alone but is sometimes seen in groups to hunt schools of smaller prey. It is both curious and cautious, typically keeping its distance, and usually swims slowly to conserve energy.
