The Round Scad has a thin, cylindrical body that is shiny and silvery, with a darker greenish-blue or brownish back. Small black spots run along its curved lateral line, and there is often a dark spot visible near the top of its gill cover. Its tail fin is deeply forked, and the base of its tail is marked by a series of large, tough scales called scutes.
This Scad is often found in fast-moving small groups. They eat tiny floating animals like plankton and crab larvae, and their diet can change as they grow. They are also an important food source for many larger predatory fish.
