The Sunshinefish has a dark brown or olive body with a lighter underside. A bright blue-purple line runs from the snout to the upper edge of the eye. Juveniles have a blue or purple lower body and a bright yellow upper body.
The Sunshinefish feeds on plankton that float in the water and forms distinct pairs during breeding. Females lay eggs that attach to the substrate, and males guard and fan them to keep them clean until they hatch. On Bonaire, adults live in deeper water, making them far less commonly seen than Juveniles.
