The Flame Helmet has a heavy, rounded shell with a low spire and wavy brown markings across a creamy base. It has blunt knobs that run along the shoulder of the shell and just below it. Its thick outer lip is cream-colored and marked with several dark brown rectangular spots. The foot is light brown to beige, with some darker markings near the edge.
The Flame Helmet is usually found alone on sandy seafloors or in seagrass beds in shallow water. It is an active hunter at night, feeding mainly on Sea Urchins. It can use toxic saliva to immobilize its prey.
