This Sponge grows in groups of short or long brown or tan tubes in various shapes. The tubes sometimes grow apart from each other or merge together at the base. The openings at the top are usually paler than the rest of the sponge.
The surface of the Brown Tube Sponge may appear smooth or be covered with small dark spots caused by Zoanthids growing on it.
