Geometric Encrusting Tunicates

These Tunicates grow in rounded colonies with small openings where water flows in and larger openings where water flows out. The openings are grouped in patterns that often appear geometric, forming shapes or designs.

The Geometric Encrusting Tunicate belongs to the Botryllus family. Exact species identification is challenging due to similarities among species. It grows in flat colonies that cover hard surfaces and is most often found in shallow to mid-depth water, where it filters water through small siphons.
