The Southern Lugworm is never visible above the sand. It lives in U-shaped tunnels and creates cone-shaped mounds on the surface by pushing out leftover sand. These mounds are the only sign of its presence.
This Lugworm stays below the sand in seagrass or sandy areas. It feeds by swallowing sand, filtering out food, and then pushing out the rest.
