This Zoanthid has small polyps that range in color from deep maroon to reddish‑brown. Tiny white dots are visible between its short tentacles. It often grows in large groups, covering the surface of sponges.

The Maroon Sponge Zoanthid is usually found in deeper waters. It lives only on certain sponges, mostly on the Brown Tube Sponge and the Dark Volcano Sponge.
