This Triplefin has a red-brown translucent body with a diamond-patterned texture. Dark bars run along its length, with two bars much darker near the tail and a much lighter bar in between. Males display a bright yellow head when guarding eggs or courting.
The Two-Bar Triplefin can be found along rocky shorelines and on pier pilings. It is not shy and rarely moves unless closely approached.
