This Scorpionfish has a reddish-brown mottled body with mushroom shaped appendages above the eyes. Two dark bars are present on the tail, and its fins have dark edges.
The Mushroom Scorpionfish is most active at night and can be found among sandy rubble or in seagrass areas.
