This Lizardfish has a pale turquoise body marked with light brown bars and diamond patterns along the sides. Thin blue stripes may complement the bars. Its fins look banded by yellow or brown stripes.

The Sand Diver typically buries itself in sandy areas, sometimes leaving only its head exposed. It is not very shy but moves away when approached too closely.
