This Scorpionfish has a mottled body in shades of brown, red, green, and orange, with dusky bands on its body, tail and fins. Large fleshy appendages may be seen above the eyes and on the head.

The Spotted Scorpionfish lives in different seafloor habitats, blending in perfectly with rocks and coral. It stays motionless to avoid detection and has venomous spines for defense. It is not shy but moves away when closely approached or disturbed.
