This Jawfish has a bright yellow head, with a body and fins that are pale blue. Dark stripes or spots may appear under the mouth.
The Yellowhead Jawfish lives in sandy and coral rubble areas, hovering vertically above its burrow. It is somewhat shy and retreats tail-first into its burrow when approached. The males carry the eggs in their mouths until they hatch.
