This small Moray has a reddish-brown body with white spots lining the jaw edges. Its gill area has dark lines, and a dark ring surrounds the eye. The arched jaws do not fully close, revealing sharp, pointed teeth.
The Chestnut Moray hides in rocky areas, corals, and crevices during the day, with only its head visible. It is shy and quickly retreats when approached by divers.
