This Moray has strongly arched jaws that keep its sharp, pointed teeth visible even when its mouth is closed. Its body is reddish-brown with lighter patches, and its dorsal fin starts just ahead of the gill opening.
The Viper Moray hides in small cracks or between the coral, sticking its head out at night. It retreats quickly if divers get too close.
