This Wrasse has a blue head with two dark bars behind it, separated by a pale bar. The back half of its body varies from yellow-green to bluish-green. In the intermediate phase, it has wide dark bars along the middle of its body, a white underside, and a black spot on its dorsal fin. In the initial and juvenile phases, its colors can vary, but it is often yellow with a black stripe running along the middle of its body and a black spot on the dorsal fin.
