This Wrasse has a body that ranges from dark purple to lavender, with a darker shade on its upper snout. Juveniles are violet or grayish-blue, with rows of dark and light spots or short bands along the body.
The Creole Wrasse is often seen swimming in open water near drop-offs and over reefs, either in small groups or large streaming schools.
