This Wrasse has a brownish-green body with several pale saddles along the back. Its head has numerous blue lines radiating from the eye. Juveniles have an orange-yellow body with a stripe running from below the eye to the base of the tail and bars on the upper body. A large black spot is located on the dorsal fin, extending onto the upper body, and another black spot is on the upper tail base.
