This Wrasse has a yellow head with a dark midbody bar that connects to a stripe running below the dorsal fin and extending to the tail. Two wavy lines extend from the upper rear of the eye. In the initial phase, the head and upper back are dark, while the sides show shades of yellow. The tail has wavy blue lines. Juveniles have a bright yellow body with a blue midbody stripe.
